How old do you have to be, to be able to give a cheek swab for a bone marrow transplant?

I was wondering because I read something about it the other day. I really want to do it, but I need to know more about it, and what you need to do to be able to do it.
Answer:
i applaude your willingness to learn more about bone marrow donation. there are websites that can tell you what you need to know but i don't know the exact names. if you're under 18, i believe you'll need your parents permission. talk to them. learn as much as you can and then make your decision.
I don't think there is an age limit on the cheek swab, I believe they perform the cheek swab on babies.
you can usually do it at any age but there are some things you need to research. It is usually a strict protocol before you can donate bone marrow. No soda, you get lots of lab tests done to show you have good red blood cell count, your white cells are good (no colds or infections), and just a tad bit of info not to turn you away from doing this but it is a painful procedure! Do your research, ask your doctor questions and if you still feel up to doing it then bravo for you!
